Clarence Thomas: "I Would Rule in Favor of Billionaires Anyway"

Facing calls for impeachment over his use of luxury jets, yachts and lavish resorts provided by real estate magnate Harlan Crow, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas denied today that such feting has had any influence over his tenure on the bench.

Thomas, whose Martin-Quinn score ranks him the most conservative member of the court, argued that he would never rule against a billionaire's interests.

"My interpretation of the law has never favored unmoneyed over moneyed interests," Thomas accurately pointed out. "Nor has any hospitality afforded me influenced my opinion on any case. I would rule in favor of almost any billionaire regardless."

Responding to New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who described Thomas's receipt of not only opulent vacations from Crow but a bible once owned by Frederick Douglass, a bust of Abraham Lincoln and free renovations to his mother's home, "shocking – almost cartoonish," Thomas again cited his record as a champion of the very, very rich.

"I don't know what's so shocking. My career speaks for itself," he remarked in his trademark laconic style.

Thomas also reacted to AOC's prediction that the current Supreme Court's legacy will be one of "rank corruption, erosion of democracy, and the stripping of human rights".

"Hopefully," he said.
