Video Proves Man Fatally Shot By Officer Armed with Words

A cell phone video of a fatal shooting in which a veteran San Diego police officer shot and killed an unarmed man confirms the officer's earlier claims that the victim was calling him names.

"He made several disparaging remarks regarding my intellect," Officer Nathan Crowder said of the man he shot to death last week. "And he also made fun of my freckles."

Audio from the video captures the man calling Crowder "dummy" and "freckle face". He also at one point says that the officer is "too stupid" to shoot him.

San Diego District Attorney Connie Dumas announced today that her office would not file criminal charges against Crowder in light of the video's content.

"I understand Officer Crowder is very sensitive about his freckles, as he was often picked on for them as a child," she remarked. "That's just a shame. Words hurt."

Dumas argued that, despite not being in possession of a weapon, the man's vicious verbal assault of Crowder constituted a potential physical threat to the officer.

"Some of the things he said, including a few cracks about his weight, could have made Officer Crowder feel so bad that he turned his gun on himself," Dumas explained.

Officer Crowder is currently recovering at home on paid leave.
