National Call to Service Day a Flop as Illegal Immigrants Continue to Steal America's Volunteer Jobs

Underscoring the severity of the impact illegal immigration continues to have on the nation, the heterogeneous complexion expected of today’s National Call to Service workforce failed to materialize as undocumented workers continue to rob America of its volunteer jobs.

Championed as a day for Americans to begin the renewal of their ailing country through the performance of community service, native and naturalized citizens stayed away in droves upon discovering the depth of which illegal immigrants had pushed the wages for unskilled labor.

"I wanted to volunteer, I really did, but the compensation packages I was being quoted were outrageous. With the exception of the blood bank which offered me a juice box and a cookie, these places were expecting me to work for literally nothing," one American man complained, "I’m sorry, but I can’t feed my family on juice boxes and cookies - especially if they're going to take a pint of my blood, in which case I imagine I might need to eat the cookie and drink the juice myself."

Optimistically planned to invoke the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. by echoing his call for self-sacrifice in furtherance of the greater good on his birthday, it was sadly mostly business as usual around the country as millions of potential volunteers were prevented from pitching in at nursing homes, parks and homeless shelters across the nation by illegal aliens willing to perform the menial yet essential work for less money.

"I remember the city used to pay 40 cents an hour for civic improvement work back in the 60s, and now they expect me to spend my afternoon painting over graffiti for free? The hell with that," groused an elderly Dallas resident.

Added the man: "God damn Mexicans."

A man associated with an organization contracted to clear debris left from Hurricane Ike in Galveston, Texas rationalized his concern’s use of low-cost immigrant labor over American volunteers.

"The fact is, we’re operating on a tight budget and I can get three hard working Guatemalans for the same amount an American won’t get out of bed to volunteer for."
